What We’ve Learned While Building ScheduleX

Introduction
Kristen and I started ScheduleX six months ago, and we've learned some fascinating things along the way.
Student-Driven vs. Teacher-Driven Scheduling
First discovery: Student-driven vs. teacher-driven schedules are a real thing. We didn't realize this was a fundamental choice until we started doing this work. Schools want to be student-driven, but many end up being teacher-driven because they start with teacher preferences and fill students into whatever's left. We're helping schools balance both approaches.
100% Course Fulfillment Is Possible
Second: Most schools have never seen 100% course fulfillment. Never. At ScheduleX, about 70% of our schools hit 100% fulfillment. Every single student got every single request. The reactions ranged from complete silence to disbelief to excitement.
I followed up with a Head of Upper School when her team had no reaction at all. Her response? "They each said they were truly speechless, which is why they didn't say much. They just couldn't believe it!"
The Institutional Knowledge Bottleneck
Third: Every school seems to have one scheduler who holds all the institutional knowledge. When they leave, schools are genuinely stuck. This critical process living in someone's head is not sustainable. We’re helping schools institutionalize this process.
Scheduling Is Strategic, Not Just Logistical
Scheduling looks like logistics, but it's filled with strategic choices that determine everything from student success to teacher retention.

Absolutely! ScheduleX allows you to add all your rules and requirements - as complex as they come - directly into the system. Our algoirthm will then generate schedule scenarios based on these rules.
You can upload your school’s data, configure your rules and constraints, and our AI-powered algorithm will generate multiple schedule options for you to choose from. Alternatively, you can visualise and build your own schedule from scratch.
Once you upload your data, the first schedule can be ready in as quickly as a couple of hours.
No, but your SIS will definitely thank us.
Until you’re happy with what you have. No cap :)
You can export your schedule in a .csv file that can be easily imported into popular SISs like Blackbaud, Veracross, Facts and others.
